Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antibiotic which was
widely used in veterinary medicine. Since 1994 the use of
chloramphenicol is banned within the European Community. The
Chloramphenicol EIA test is a competitive enzyme immunoassay
for the screening of chloramphenicol in tissue, plasma,
serum, urine, eggs, milk, honey and aquaculture products.
Since the antibody used in this test system also recognizes
chloramphenicol-glucuronide, this substance can be analyzed
without prior hydrolysis. The dose-response curve shows a
measuring range of 0.025 - 2 ng/ml. Diluted urine and
defatted milk samples can be applied directly in the test
with a detection limit of 0.1 ng/ml. After extraction of the
sample using ethyl acetate detection limits of 0.01 ng/ml
(urine, milk) and of 0.02 ng/g (egg, shrimp, muscle tissue,
honey) were obtained. Using a ethyl acetate extraction
for poultry feed and pork feed resulted in detection limits
of 0.3 ng/g. |
