A sensitive ELISA kit for the Detection of Malachite Green
Malachite Green (MG) is a chemical dye that is highly soluble in water and is used as a fungicide and disinfectant in aquaculture industry.
MG is potentially carcinogenic and it may cause significant health risk for humans who consume aqua culture products. Its use is not authorized in the EU
Euro-Diagnostica now introduces an ELISA kit that detects MG at a level of 0.2 ppb in surrounding water and edible tissues of aquaculture products.
The antibody used in this kit cross reacts with Leuco-Malachite Green and Cristal Violet.
Upon uptake MG is reduced into Leuco-Malachite Green (LMG). This reduction is an enzymatic process. The reduced LMG is mainly stored in fat tissue. With this kit any abuse of MG up to the EU authorized cut-off level of 2ppb for the sum of MG and LMG can easily be demonstrated.
